An Examen for Autumn
In the beginning of the month, I talked about noticing the beauty of God’s Creation this fall. So I thought at the end of this month, we’d take a minute to think back on what we noticed around us and in ourselves. This examen may be a great one to do outside, where you can take in that beauty with all your senses.
Take a few deep breaths and let yourself settle.
1. God’s Presence and Beauty
How have you noticed God’s presence this fall?
Where have you seen His beauty in the changing world around you, in falling leaves, cooler air, shifting light, or the rhythms of daily life?
2. Gratitude and Praise
What about this autumn fills your heart with gratitude?
When have you felt drawn into praise, perhaps quietly, or in an unexpected moment of joy or peace?
3. Emotions and Inner Life
What emotions are closest to the surface right now?
What have you been feeling or carrying through this season?
Invite God to be present in those feelings with you.
4. Moments to Lift Up
Think of one or two moments from this fall that come to mind, whether joyful, ordinary, or hard.
Hold them before God now. What might He want to show you in them?
5. Looking Ahead
As you move through the rest of this autumn and toward year’s end, what are your hopes?
Where do you sense God inviting you to rest, trust, or grow?
